During Black History Month, we honor the contributions, sacrifices, and triumphs of Black individuals throughout history. Why is it important to celebrate?  Because it provides an opportunity to highlight achievements often overlooked or marginalized in the narratives we have heard throughout our lives.

According to the CDC, Suicide is one of the leading causes of death in the United States. All too often we hear stories in corporate America about a friend or beloved colleague taking their own life. We are shocked, saddened, and traumatized, but how many times have we heard “No one ever saw it coming.”

Summer is here in the U.S. – and everyone needs a break. Even while working remotely or in a hybrid situation, stress is real and burnout is the result of unattended stress. While we are all likely to suffer from stress from work, acknowledging it and addressing it are crucial in trying to manage it before it progresses to burnout.

Building an inclusive environment requires more than just celebrating diversity events each month. In fact, it’s just the tip of the iceberg. However, on a positive note, it’s a start. Educating others about events with which they may not be familiar creates awareness and curiosity.

Mental well-being should be at the forefront of all organizations. Having access to more robust resources is great, but talking about mental health, hosting workshops, and hosting seminars outlining what is actually available to employees is the key.

From February 1st until March 1st, we celebrate the contributions and accomplishments of Black Americans in the United States. Negro History Week, initiated by Carter G. Woodson, was observed for the first time on February 7, 1926.

Juneteenth was installed as a federal holiday on June 17, 2021, by the President of the United States, Joe Biden. Each year, June 19th will be recognized as Juneteenth – Monday, June 19th, in 2023. Juneteenth is the American holiday where we celebrate the end of enslavement in the United States.

In most places, Pride Month is celebrated in June each year, in commemoration of its roots in the Stonewall Riots of June 1969. For anyone who does not know the history, “The Stonewall Riots, also called the Stonewall Uprising, began in the early hours of June 28, 1969, when New York City police raided the Stonewall Inn, a gay club located in Greenwich Village in New York City.
