Leaders Should Be Supporting Their Teams Through Coaching

Coaching is a powerful tool – and quite frankly how all leaders should be managing their teams.  Coaching is a collaboration – a partnership – a trusting relationship – where leaders are able to meet their team members “where they are” on their professional journey to help them to break through any internal and/or external barriers to achieve success – and that success is defined by the team member -- where they want to be – not where the coach thinks they should be.

While there are many types of coaching, each leader should choose a style of coaching that works best for them.  An analysis of who they are working with, the organization at which they are coaching, and the goal their employee(s) want to achieve is necessary in choosing that style.  See “8 Common Leadership Styles (Plus How to Find Your Own),” published/updated on March 16, 2023 by Indeed’s Editorial Team here:   8 Common Leadership Styles (Plus How To Find Your Own) | Indeed.com.

Coaching requires a skilled and committed leader who is able to establish trust and respect with their team members, take an interest in their team members’ short and long-term individual and team goals, and commit to one-on-one and/or team interaction on a regular basis.  If the team members are equally committed to collaborate and plow through the internal and external obstacles keeping them from reaching their full potential, the coaching relationship will be a successful one.
